Obituary

John “Tony” Hammons, 56, of Milan, IL and formerly of Kewanee died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at his home.

Tony was born September 27, 1953 in Kewanee the son of Jack and Alice “Mimi” (Stead) Hammons. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1971. He furthered his education in Colorado and at Black Hawk East.

Tony was employed in sales at Dillards in Milan, IL.

Tony was a member of the former Visitation Catholic Church and attended St. Francis of Assisi in Kewanee, and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Tony was an avid pool player and played in numerous leagues. He enjoyed the White Sox and the Cincinnati Bengals. He will be remembered as a great story teller. He enjoyed spending time with this family and grandson.

Surviving is one son Matthew Anthony (Lacey) Hammons of Kewanee, a grandson Raife Hammons of Kewanee, his mother Alice “Mimi” Hammons of Kewanee and three brothers Steve (Jo) Hammons of Kewanee, Pat (Lu) Hammons of Galva, Christ (Lisa) Hammons of Kewanee.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack in 2008 and a brother Brian in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee. Fr. Anthony Labedis will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the services and private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, IL Memorials may be directed to the family for an education fund for his grandson.
