Obituary

Edward J. Angelcyk, 93, of Kewanee, Il. died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Kewanee Care Home. Private graveside services were held Monday March 14, 2011 at the Pleasant View Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Rafalko officiating.

Ed was born July 20, 1917 in Kewanee ,son of John and Mary (Zapisek) Angielczyk. He was reared and educated in the Kewanee schools, graduating in 1936. Ed was one of the last surviving members of the legendary, undefeated and untied Kewanee High School 1934 Football Team. After wins over much larger schools like East Moline, Galesburg, Rock Island, and Peoria Central that team claimed the Illinois State Championship; an “unofficial” title in that era.

Ed joined the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations from 1942-1946. Following the war, he worked at Kewanee Boiler Company until his retirement in 1979.

Ed married Virginia R. Wastart May 28, 1949 in Downers Grove Il. She survives as well as one son Mark (Daisy) Angelcyk of Kewanee and one daughter Mrs. Michael (Nancy) Carrel of Lee’s Summit Mo. Also surviving are one grandson Frank Angelcyk of New York, and one sister Berniece Grudzinski of Moline Il.

Ed was preceded in death by one sister Julie Chinlund.

Ed was a member a Lifetime Member of VFW Post 8078.
