Obituary

Melanie Jane Younggren, “Mell”, 60, of Kewanee, Il. died at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. A celebration of Mell’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 18, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Kewanee. A gathering of family and friends will follow the services at the Elk’s Club in Kewanee. Pastor Dan Craig will lead in the celebration service. Inurnment will be private at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society. The Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. is in charge of arrangements.

Mell was born October 5, 1951 in Kewanee the daughter of Myron and Marge (Greenstreet) Laub. She graduated from Kewanee High School in 1969 where she was Homecoming Queen. She later graduated from McConnell Airline School in St. Paul. Minnesota. Mell was employed at Hertz at Chicago O-Hare Airport. She later worked in local real estate, developed the Lone Tree in Neponset, Il., had been a part owner in the Pioneer Club and worked as a waitress at Lloyd’s and the Pioneer Club prior to her retirement.

Mell married Dennis Scott. They were divorced. She later married Dane Younggren. He survives along with a daughter Deena (Clinton) Raes of Hopedale, Il., a stepdaughter Heather (Jason) Calloway of Champaign, Il., four grandchildren Kennedy and Sophie Raes and Jordan and Jocelyn Calloway. Her father, Myron Laub of Kewanee, two sisters Sue Neva and Patty Lewis both of Kewanee, nieces and nephews and her best friend of 55 years Janice Cook. Mell was preceded in death by her mother and a son Clinton.

Following her retirement, Mell has enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, being with her dogs Lobo and Dooley and spoiling her grandchildren.
