Obituary

Ruth Cervantez, 79, of Kewanee, Il. died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.

Ruth was born May 3, 1932 in Galva, Il. the daughter of Miguel “Mike” and Serafina Padilla.

She grew up in Kewanee, graduating from Visitation Grade School and Kewanee High School.. Ruth married Sam Cervantez on October 11, 1951 in Galesburg, Il. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Biscente and Francisco, two sisters Josephine Ceja and Esperonza Carillo and two nephews.

Surviving are three sons Dan (Sue) Cervantez, Joe (Sue) Cervantez and Ron (Dawn) Cervantez all of Kewanee, grandchildren Chris, Eric and Sara Cervantez and Jeff Weston, Eric (Kelly) Weston and Marcy (Matt) Solomon, a great granddaughter Maykinszie Solomon, three brothers Alfonso Padilla of Kewanee, Norbert (Nancy) Padilla, Joseph (Pam) Padilla and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth had been employed for 35 years as a nurses aide at the former Leisure Hills and St. Francis Hospital and Kewanee Public Hospital, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee. Ruth was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and liked to knit and crochet. She loved spending time with her cat Monique.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee. Fr. James Pallardy will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday January 6th at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or the Kewanee Public Library.
