Obituary for Betty Devor

Betty A. Devor, 78, of Kewanee, died Friday, April 5, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Hospital, Peoria. Betty was born September 5, 1940 in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of Walter J. and Marie J. (Kraus) DeWerff. Betty graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1958. Betty married Paul A. Devor on August 5, 1962 at the Mt. Olive Methodist Church, he preceded her in death on April 17, 2001.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Dr. Penny (Scott) Wesson, WI, Christine (Curt) Reeves, Kewanee; one son, Timothy A. (Alexis Green-Ortiz) Devor, Moline; four grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Nelson, Peoria, Ryan Reeves, Elk Grove Village, IL, Zachary Wesson, WI, and Jake Wesson, WI; and one brother, Frank DeWerff, Tampa, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Mark Devor.
Betty was a homemaker whose greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. With her husband’s job, it was necessary to move some. They lived in several places in Illinois including Flora, Harrisburg, Jerseyville, Belvidere, and Kewanee. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, including serving as the Christian Education Coordinator. She was in the Sarah Circle, M&M’s, and United Methodist Women and was recently named UMW Volunteer of the Year. In addition to her church life, Betty volunteered at the St. Luke’s Hospital gift shop, participated in two book clubs, Women’s Club, and served as an election judge. Her grandchildren will always remember her for her generosity, kindness, unconditional love, and her sense of fun.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Kewanee First United Methodist Church. Pastor Kevin Drane will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mt. Olive, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 am, Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the church. Memorials may be made to Kewanee First United Methodist Church or to the Kewanee Public Library.
