Obituary for Carol R. Johnson

Carol Ruth Johnson, 88, formerly of Kewanee, died Friday, February 15, 2019 at Hammond Henry Long Term Care, Geneseo. Carol was born March 14, 1930 in Cordova, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Helen Nelson. She graduated from Hoke country grade school in 1944, Salutatorian at Cordova High School in 1948 and Northern Illinois University in 1952. She married Russell Mighell on June 20, 1954 in Cordova, he preceded her in death on April 3, 1966. She married John Davis Johnson on November 20, 1971 in Kewanee, he preceded her in death on June 24, 1985.
Carol was a member of the Cordova Baptist Church until 1954, when she joined the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee. She served the church choir, United Methodist Women, Circles, Library Committee, Nominating committee, Worship committee, Lay visitor, and as Chairman of the Administrative Board from 1989 to 1991. She was also a member of the Clio Reading Club.
Carol taught Home Economics at Somonauk High School from 1953 to 1954 and Home Economics and Kindergarten in Kewanee Schools from 1967 to 1971. She worked in Medical Records at Kewanee Public Hospital from 1978 to 1981 and at the Kewanee Public Library from 1985 to 1989.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail (Stephen) Click of Coppell, TX; three sons, Gregory W. (Kay) Mighell of Geneseo, IL, Brian T. Mighell of Wylie, TX, Scott N. Mighell of Macomb, IL; grandchildren, Arielle Click (Scott Fulmer), Austin (Becky) Click, Cody (Courtney) Mighell, Travis (fiancé, Leah Redeker) Mighell, Taylor Mighell, Jade Mighell, Carolyn Mighell, James Munger, Hannah (Aaron) Jones; great grandchildren, Oliver, Valerie, James; sister-in-law, Eleanor Nelson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, stepson, John Matthews Johnson, brothers, Charles Nelson and Delmer Nelson, and sister-in-law, Vanetta Nelson.
Memorial Services will be 11:30 am, Friday, February 22, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Jericho Cemetery in Sugar Grove, IL at a later date. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Kewanee.
