Obituary for Connie Phelps

Connie Phelps, 61, of Kewanee, died Monday, June 29, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Connie was born December 17, 1958 in Algona, IA, the daughter of Vernon and Virginia (Leners) Subject. Connie graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. Connie married Gerald Phelps in Kewanee, on December 18, 1981; he survives.
Connie is also survived by her children, Zachrey (Brenda) Phelps, Kewanee, Aprille (Erik) Purdy, Kewanee; five grandchildren, Hailey Marie (Nathan) Smith, Kaleb Phelps, Korbin Phelps, Brianna Purdy, William Purdy; brother, Larry Subject, Garner, IA; sister, Kandie Ann (Kenny) Hansen, Colby, KS; her mother, Virginia; her mother-in-law, Joan Phelps; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon; step-father, John Durgin; two brothers, Terry and Gary Subject; and her father-in-law, Donald Phelps.
Connie worked at Brighton in West Jersey. She enjoyed flowers and decorating her backyard. She enjoyed working outside. Connie was a #1 Jimmie Johnson NASCAR fan. She collected pictures and statues of tigers. Connie enjoyed fishing at the Rock River with her husband. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Friday, July 3, 2020 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church. Father Johndamaseni Zilimu will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Rosary service will be at 4:30 pm, Thursday, July 2, 2020 by Deacon Marty VanMeltebeck at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the donor’s choice.
