Obituary for Melvin "Mel" D. Craig

Melvin “Mel” D. Craig, 69, of Galva, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at OSF St. Luke Medical Center, Kewanee. Mel was born November 30, 1949, in Kewanee, the son of Milan and Marie (Thomas) Craig. Mel graduated from Wethersfield High School with the class of 1968. Mel married Teresa “Terry” Harrell on September 6, 1975 in Kewanee, she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Lee Craig, Steven Craig, both of Galva; three grandchildren, Dalton (Bella) Thrasher, Chris Craig, Milan Craig; three brothers, Cliff (Jean) Craig, Toulon, Tom (Pam) Craig, Streator, Joe (Kathy) Craig, Galva; two sisters, Betty Boltz, Milan, Pat (Bill) Hewitt, Bradford, and many nieces and nephews. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Robert Boltz.
Mel started working at Kewanee Corporation in 1969, he worked there for 37 years. He then worked at Eagle Enterprises, retiring in 2015. He was a member of the FFA and 4H in school. He was an avid bowler and golfer in his younger years. He loved the Chicago Bears and the Fighting Illini. He enjoyed going to the fairs from Henry County to Springfield, to watch his grandkids show their livestock.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Giese. Burial will be private at the Saxon Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm, Monday, April 29, 2019 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warriors Project.
