Paul E. Rist, 84, of Kewanee, passed away peacefully at home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
Paul was born October 14, 1935 in Ottawa, IL, the son of Dale A. and Gladys E. (Swaney) Rist. Paul was raised in Elmira and graduated from Toulon High School with the class of 1953. Paul attended Olivet Nazarene College.
He enlisted in the Navy from 1954-1958, where he was a hospital corpsman 2nd class. Then he worked at Midwest Typewriter in Moline and Murphy Book Store in Kewanee until opening and operating Paul’s Office Equipment for 16 ½ years. Then he retired from AST Cabinetry in 1998. Pastimes included being a Lay Speaker at Lafayette Methodist Church. He was a member of the Flemish American and the American Legion Auxiliary unit 31 and current member of the Kewanee Church of Peace. He enjoyed mowing, traveling, dancing, singing in the choir, horseshoes and along with loving his wife, Janice of 62 years, raising three children; Jeff (Dorothy Roe), Quad Cities, Peggy Rose, TN, John (Terry Sauer), Kewanee; two grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin Petty) and Brian (Amber Sauer); and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Gladys Rist; and his grandparents.
Funeral Services will be at 3:30 pm, Friday, December 13, 2019 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Craig will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:30 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. A private burial will be in the Toulon Cemetery at a later date. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kewanee Church of Peace or Meals on Wheels at the Senior Center.
