Obituary for Phyllis D. Dotson

Phyllis D. Dotson, 94, of Kewanee, died Thursday, January 9, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Hospital, Peoria. Phyllis was born April 12, 1925 in Footville, WI, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Trotter) Brummond. She graduated from Bradley University in 1962 with a BS in Intermediate Education and an English Major. Phyllis married George B. Dotson on December 19, 1944 in Olympia, Washington, he preceded her in death in 2005.
Phyllis is survived by two sons, Kit (Cheryl) Dotson, Boxelder, SD, Dr. Timothy (Susan) Dotson, Northbrook, IL; three grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, and Geoffrey; two great grandchildren, Toni and Lance. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; infant daughter, Mary Rose; and a sister, Edna Alice.
Phyllis taught fifth and sixth grades in Galva and English and Social Studies at Central Junior High School, Kewanee. She completed her master’s degree and went on to earn thirty more hours. During this time, she worked as a counselor with the Kewanee School system. She completed a school psychologist internship and worked in that capacity for two more years. Throughout her years she has tutored a continuous supply of students in English, History, Health, and Science. She received the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award. She enjoyed attending different churches with her friends, and volunteering where needed. Phyllis enjoyed golfing, bowling, walking, reading, travelling, playing bridge, some needlepoint, and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be from 3:00-5:00 pm, Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, Kewanee. A private burial will be at Wethersfield Cemetery.
