Obituary for Terry L. DeClercq

Terry L. DeClercq, 75, of Kewanee, died Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his home. Terry was born February 13, 1944 in Kewanee, the son of Robert and Beverly (Tharp) Felten. He graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1962. Terry married Mary A. Turnbull on February 25, 1968 in Kewanee. She survives.
Terry is also survived by two children, John (Becky) DeClercq, and Michael (Kara) DeClercq, both of Kewanee; five grandchildren, Aaron (Tori) DeClercq, Freeburg, IL, Cory DeClercq, Koeyn DeClercq, Emmorie DeClercq, Caesyn DeClercq, all of Kewanee; three sisters, Debbie (Jim) Woods, Le Claire, IA, Jane (Shelby) Davis, Kewanee, Lori (Matt) Gibson, Kewanee; one brother, Phil (Marlene) Felten, Lake Elsinore, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Nancy Foster and Chris DeClercq.
Terry served in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967. Terry worked for Hyster as Quality Control Inspection, a garage foreman at Midland Coal, and a supervisor at Barcol Overdoor, Sheffield. He also worked for IME in Galva as a supervisor and was a site maintenance supervisor for the Housing Authority of Henry County for 20 years. He retired from there in March 2009. He was a lifetime Wethersfield Booster member. He volunteered for 20 years filming and keeping time for junior and high school football and basketball games. Terry was an assistant coach for the baseball park district. He enjoyed attending all the sporting activities for his grandchildren. Terry loved doing anything with tools and taking care of the yard. Since retirement he enjoyed his morning and afternoon visits to Burger King for coffee.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, January 31, 2020 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Pastor Andrew Christman will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 am, Friday, January 31, 2020 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wethersfield Athletic Boosters or the Kewanee A’s Baseball. Please leave an online condolence for Terry’s family at www.schuenemantumblesonfuneralhome.com.
